SANAA, Aug 11 (Reuters) - A prominent Yemeni cleric who was jailed in the United States on charges of aiding Hamas returned home on Tuesday, where hundreds of people including top government officials gathered to greet him.
Sheikh Mohammed Ali Hasan al-Moayad, 61, and his aide Mohammed Mohsen Zayed, 35, had been held since 2003 and were convicted in 2005 of funnelling funds to Hamas, a Palestinian militant group that Washington regards as a terrorist organisation.
